Technology Strategy to Execution: The Hitchhikers Guide to our LTP!
Abstract
The challenge was laid down by the new governing body: Our technology is not Fit For Purpose. Be respectful of the heritage we carry but set up technology reform to be better, faster, cheaper, and empower New Zealand’s largest city! This is a chance to hear how Auckland Council answered the call to action, and how we brought the opportunity, the people, and the technology stories together to earn the right to embark on one of the biggest and most exciting Local Government transformations in recent times.
Biography
Neil is the General Manager of Technology Services for Auckland Council Group, encompassing Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Watercare, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, and Eke Panuku. He’s had over 20 years of experience in technology with some of New Zealand’s most iconic brands, including Mitre 10, and Skycity Entertainment Group.
Neil’s been with Auckland Council for the last ten years in various technology lead roles, and as the General Manager of Technology Services has been charged with making technology “Fit For Purpose”.
In response to Auckland Council’s Long-term Plan 2024-2034, Neil has been leading the Technology Services through a significant transformation programme and new operating model to position Technology Services to deliver on expectations to be better, faster and cheaper.
The purpose of council has the community and city at the heart of everything it does. These values resonate strongly with Neil and creates a drive to question the status quo, a useful anchor for needing to do things differently.
