Abstract

Local government is at a pivotal moment as AI and agentic technologies redefine how services are delivered and communities are engaged. In this session Stan Bu and Lauren Nobbs will share Microsoft's vision and roadmap for AI, explore global examples of councils using technology to innovate, and outline practical steps for embedding AI securely into operations. Attendees will learn why security must be the foundation of this transformation, what it means to become a frontier organisation, and how to start the agentic journey with actionable strategies that prepare councils for success in a future powered by AI.

Biography

Stan Bu – Senior AI Business Process Specialist, Microsoft New Zealand Stan helps public sector organisations and enterprises accelerate their digital transformation through Microsoft Business Applications and AI. With a focus on Dynamics 365 and Copilot technologies, Stan partners with councils and agencies to deliver secure, scalable solutions that improve citizen engagement and operational efficiency. Stan is passionate about practical AI adoption and has led initiatives across customer experience, automation, and compliance for local government and enterprise customers in New Zealand.
Lauren Nobbs – Security Solutions Specialist, Microsoft New Zealand Lauren works with New Zealand’s public sector and enterprise customers to build a modern, unified security posture and accelerate secure AI adoption. She helps councils and agencies to build unified SecOps, protect identities and data, and strengthen compliance and incident response. Prior to her current role Lauren was part of Microsoft’s Partner organisation, where she enabled partners and customers to adopt AI responsibly and at scale. Lauren champions practical, compliant AI adoption and is focussed on guiding councils through threat protection, data security, and governance programs.
