Fahimi holds a PhD that focussed on decision-making and information sharing during disasters. His international experience including his role as the head of Public Affairs in a multinational conglomerate, involving collaboration with ASEAN government agencies at various levels. Subsequently, he led a major restructuring effort as the head of Strategic Planning in a Malaysian high-tech conglomerate. Following this, he transitioned into teaching at Victoria University of Wellington and Wellington Institute of Technology. He now works with Wellington City Council's Emergency Management and Business Continuity team, concentrating on designing Business Continuity Plans using the lens of Emergency Management and incorporating technology.

I've been a part of Wellington City Council since 2007 and have taken part in many emergency responses since that time. As a result of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake I have worked on creating, improving and maintaining WCC's emergency management GIS platform.
