Workshop: Mentoring

Presentation Abstract

Dr Margaret Potter and Dr Angela Cadogan will run a dynamic and interactive workshop designed for physiotherapists who are looking to improve their mentoring skills. They will cover essential insights and practical tools to help you guide the next generation of physiotherapists. Angela and Margaret will also share the results of their recent mentoring research study, highlighting key findings and implications for workplace mentoring.

Biography

Dr Margaret Potter has a background as a physiotherapist and more than 20-years of experience in both the healthcare and education sectors with expertise in staff development, leadership, mentoring and coaching. She is Director of the TELL Centre which offers the award-winning Teaching on the Run Program and is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. She enjoys working with individuals, groups, and organisations to optimise communication, teamwork, and workplace-based performance. Margaret is a sought-after entertaining presenter who will engage, inform and extend participants with an interactive approach.

Dr. Angela Cadogan is a Specialist Physiotherapist with extensive experience in orthopaedic triage including the surgical and non-surgical management of shoulder conditions. She has worked in the Canterbury/Waitaha Elective Orthopaedic Shoulder Service since 2014, working with a local orthopaedic consultant to establish a physio-led triage team assessing GP referrals for surgical or non-surgical treatment pathways for shoulder conditions. This role included establishing the Non-Surgical Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment Service managing diagnostic and clinical treatment pathways for patients triaged to non-surgical service. Collaborating with the NZ Orthopaedic Association Angela developed role descriptions and training frameworks for these roles, and more recently with a group of orthopaedic triage physiotherapists, to develop an Entrustable Professional Activity framework for physiotherapists working in orthopaedic triage and assessment roles. With a PhD in musculoskeletal diagnostics (shoulder sub-specialty), she also consults from her private practice in Christchurch, works in an advisory role on several clinical governance committees and is an Associate Editor at JOSPT.
