Pragmatic Digital Preservation in the Pacific: Continuing the Conversation

Summary Abstract

This Birds of a Feather session is intended to continue the discussion on digital preservation in the Pacific as introduced by the iPRES panel session, Stories from the Region: Pragmatic Digital Preservation. The session will bring together attendees from throughout the Pacific to discuss approaches to, and opportunities for, digital preservation in the region.

The format for the session will be unconference-style, where facilitators will support participants in identifying specific themes for discussion. Introductory summary comments will be provided by speakers from the panel, who may be available in person or online.

One particular area of interest is AV collections, which raise some unique challenges for the GLAM sector including:
Dealing with Deadline 2025 / deadline 2030
Dealing with data after digitisation
Importance of third parties in mass digitisation projects
Working with large files and collections
Moving to FFV1 for AV standard, or if not what other standards are used and why
Infrastructure for data storage at scale

This session will provide a forum for these topics, among many others determined by the session attendees. This session has been developed by members of the Regional Impact Committee of iPRES 2025.
