Developing an Advocacy Toolkit for promoting IP/Copyright law changes to support digital preservation
Summary Abstract
There are many law changes that would be beneficial to support digital preservation, both locally in New Zealand, in the wider region, and globally.
An advocacy toolkit that includes proposals for specific wording for intellectual property or copyright laws would be useful in all of these domains in order to enable practitioners to advocate for practical changes as opportunities arise. The toolkit would specify wording for laws, explain their value and purpose, and provide advice on how to advocate for the changes in your local jurisdiction.
The session will include pre-recorded virtual presentations from experts working in the field of intellectual property law, followed by facilitated discussion toward the following goals:
To discuss and endorse some proposed changes to IP/Copyright laws
To establish a process to formalise the proposals into an advocacy toolkit for promoting IP/Copyright law changes to support digital preservation.
