The Clean Between Projects
Abstract
After reading the Australian CLEEN study published online in August 2024 which showed that improving the cleaning and disinfection of shared medical equipment significantly reduced HAIs, we realised that although cleaning shared patient equipment was a part of Standard Precautions, we had no evidence to demonstrate whether cleaning of shared equipment was being done. We commenced a project to audit the rates of cleaning shared patient equipment after use. Initial results were poor, we provided results to the teams involved and re-audited. The outcome was increased awareness of the importance of cleaning shared patient equipment and subsequent audit results showed sustained improvement.
