Abstract
Carbapenemase-Producing Organisms (CPOs) present a growing threat to global patient safety, shifting rapidly from sporadic, travel-associated cases to endemic pathogens across healthcare settings. This plenary session explores the evolving epidemiology of CPOs, highlighting the complex molecular, epidemiological, and operational challenges of controlling outbreaks in both acute hospitals and Aged Residential Care (ARC) facilities. Drawing on the Singapore experience, the presentation examines the multimodal framework required to tackle this complex, cross-sector healthcare challenge and offers practical strategies for infection prevention and control practitioners.
Biography
Dr Glorijoy Tan is an Infectious Diseases and General Medicine Specialist at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, New Zealand. She completed her specialist training in Infectious Diseases in Singapore and holds a Master of Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine before moving to New Zealand in 2026. Bringing a wealth of clinical experience from Singapore, Dr Tan previously served as an active practitioner in the Department of Infection Prevention and Control at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she was the clinical lead for the prevention and control of carbapenemase-producing organisms in the acute tertiary care hospital.
