A brand new build offers exceptional opportunity for infection control. Generous donations funded Wellington’s new children’s hospital Te Wao Nui. The hospital provides an excellent child friendly environment and exceeded the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines of the day. Before it opened, the Covid pandemic raised concerns about IPC specifications. This case study uses a virtual tour of Te Wao Nui to discus the strengths and weaknesses of the IPC design, and lessons learned. The hospital is an example of how a predominantly single room own bathroom single can curb pathogen transmission.
