Rationale: Social media is now one of the most prevalent and accessible communication tools across all age groups, offering a rapid and adaptable platform for information sharing. This makes it an effective channel for delivering key infection prevention and control (IPC) messages in busy healthcare environments.

Methodology: Our teaching method adopted a TikTok-style format using short, engaging video clips to deliver IPC education. It integrated traditional teaching approaches—such as quizzes, competitions, and interactive activities including escape rooms—into a modern digital format. By combining these elements, a hybrid teaching methodology was created, merging established educational practices with contemporary content delivery.

Significant results: The initiative achieved broad reach across diverse staff groups within the organisation, enabling wide dissemination of IPC messaging. Notably, it engaged staff who were unable to attend in-person sessions, extending access to education beyond logistical and time constraints. The content also reached audiences outside the organisation, further amplifying its impact. Feedback indicated improved accessibility, strong engagement, and enhanced retention of key messages. The ability to distribute content across multiple social media platforms further strengthened its effectiveness.

Conclusions: Social media is a valuable adjunct to traditional IPC education, particularly in settings where face-to-face teaching is limited by workload and scheduling challenges. Short, visually engaging content facilitates efficient knowledge transfer and appeals to a broad audience.

Recommendations: Incorporating social media into IPC education strategies offers a practical, scalable, and resource-efficient approach to communication. Organisations should consider adopting innovative, blended methods to enhance engagement, improve reach, and support consistent dissemination of best practices via increased use of social media.
