Healthcare systems face increasing pressure to reduce waste, strengthen supply chain resilience, and lower environmental impacts while maintaining patient safety and quality of care. Circular care offers an alternative to traditional single-use models by keeping products and materials in use for as long as clinically appropriate through reduction, reuse, repair, remanufacturing, and responsible recovery.

This presentation explores the emerging concept of circular care through an infection prevention and control (IPC) lens. It will examine how IPC principles can enable innovation while maintaining safe, evidence-informed approaches to care delivery.

Drawing on international examples and current healthcare sustainability initiatives, the session will challenge participants to consider where circular approaches may be appropriate, where risks must be carefully managed, and how IPC professionals can play a critical role in shaping resilient, sustainable healthcare systems.
