Biography

Hazel is at the forefront of CCL’s (the cloud centre of excellence for Spark Business Group) AI capabilities, spearheading ground-breaking project work that has delivered several industry firsts and set the standard for the entire industry. Harnessing computer vision, Hazel elevated efficiency in road surface assessments through a collaborative venture between CCL and engineering firm Fulton Hogan. The computer vision model automated the detection and classification of surface damage, reducing assessment times from 66 days to just 7 days. This platform revolutionized road assessment capabilities, enabling assessors to cover 300 kilometers daily, compared to the previous 15 kilometers per day. Hazel's excellence also extends to enhancing the MPI on-board camera system for commercial fishing vessels, bolstering fisheries compliance efforts by utilizing world leading AI across a fleet of 300 commerical fishing vessels. She is not only a trailblazer but also an enthusiastic mentor, actively nurturing the next generation of AI and automation talent through internship programs that have resulted in multiple hirings within CCL. Hazel has been recognized for her efforts as a two-time WIICTA (Women in ICT) award winner, winning the Graduate award in 2021 and the Innovation award in 2023.
